Procurement policy of Government of India (GOI) is transparent, uniform and open ended, under which paddy offered by farmers within the stipulated period (conforming to specifications prescribed in advance by GOI) are purchased for Central Pool at Minimum Support Price (MSP) by Food Corporation of India/ State Governments/ State Government Agencies to help farmers get remunerative price and prevent distress sale. However, if any producer/farmer gets better price in comparison to MSP, he is free to sell his produce in Open market.
Procurement of paddy across the state depends upon multiple factors viz. Production, availability of marketable surplus stock, MSP, Prevailing Market Rates, Demand Supply situation and participation of Private Traders etc.State-wise procurement of rice for central pool during the last five years is as follows-
