The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities [AYJNISHD(D)] located at Bandra West, Mumbai, celebrated its 41st Annual Day today, that is, on 9th August 2024. The participants and attendees included students, individuals with speech, language, and hearing impairments, and their families from across India. AYJNISHD(D), a leading national institute under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, marked the occasion with a series of impactful events.
The celebration commenced with a technical session on 5th August 2024, featuring an insightful lecture on ‘Stress Management’ by Dr. Harish Shetty, a renowned Psychiatrist and Counsellor. The session provided valuable guidance on managing stress, especially for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.
The festivities culminated today with a vibrant cultural program at 4 pm. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Vivek Phansalkar, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. In his keynote address, Shri Phansalkar emphasized the crucial role that institutions like AYJNISHD(D) play in building confidence among persons with speech and hearing disabilities. He expressed his support, stating that the presence of law enforcement and other societal pillars alongside individuals with disabilities is vital in ensuring their empowerment and integration at various life stages. Shri Phansalkar also lauded the institute’s commitment to nurturing students’ talents in line with the theme of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
A felicitation of high -achieving students was also held. They were awarded medals of honor, celebrating their academic excellence across diverse fields. The cultural program that followed was a testament to the extraordinary talents of children with disabilities. Participants, including children with cochlear implants, showcased their abilities through captivating performances in dance, drama, and singing, leaving the audience inspired and moved. The 41st Annual Day celebrations at AYJNISHD(D) not only highlighted the achievements of the past year but also reinforced the institute’s unwavering dedication to empowering individuals with speech and hearing disabilities across the nation.
