The Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) [AYJNISHD(D)], in collaboration with The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda), successfully hosted the ‘Deaf Livelihood Fair 2025’ at AYJNISHD, Bandra West, Mumbai. This significant event, held on the occasion of World Day of Social Justice-2025, provided a platform for deaf job seekers to engage with potential employers, explore business opportunities, and enhance their skills through AI-driven programs.
The Deaf Livelihood Fair 2025 was supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The fair garnered an overwhelming response from job seekers and employers alike, emphasizing the importance of equal employment opportunities. The event featured Indian Sign Language interpreters, ensuring an inclusive and accessible experience for all participants.
Employers participating in the fair included prominent organizations such as Maharashtra State Divyangjan Finance Development Corporation, National Career Services Centre for Differently Abled, Atypical Advantage, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Amazon, Big Basket, Kalpavriksh Pvt Ltd., and many others. Their active involvement underscores their commitment to promoting workplace diversity and inclusion.
Speaking at the event’s inauguration, Dr. Suman Kumar, Director of AYJNISHD(D), remarked, “The Deaf Livelihood Fair 2025 has set a new benchmark for promoting economic inclusion for persons with hearing disabilities, ensuring accessibility for both job seekers and employers.” Shri Sunil Sahasrabudhe, President of the All India Federation of the Deaf, added, “By bringing together employers and job seekers in an inclusive environment, we are reducing employment barriers and fostering equal opportunities for the deaf community.”
The fair facilitated not only immediate employment opportunities but also highlighted the importance of inclusive workplace policies. Employers expressed their appreciation for the initiative, recognizing the potential and talent of individuals from the deaf community.
With over 200 deaf job seekers participating, the event offered job interviews, networking opportunities, and workshops on self-employment and skill development, leaving a lasting impact on all involved. AYJNISHD(D) and its collaborators extend their sincere gratitude to all employers, recruiters, and stakeholders who contributed to making this groundbreaking event a success.
