National Medical Commission has facilitated fifth attempt to appear in exam for the students who were studying first year MBBS in the year 2019-20. A delegation of the parents and students who were studying first year MBBS in 2019-20 had requested Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar to intervene in this matter. Considering the situation that arose due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019-20, Dr. Pawar discussed this issue in detail with the senior officers of National Medical Commission(NMC) and with continuous follow ups were done.
According to the earlier rule, it was mandatory for the students to clear their first professional MBBS exams in the first four attempts. But due to the pandemic, medical colleges were closed in academic year 2019-20, because of which many students faced difficulties in their MBBS studies during that year. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar convinced the NMC that the students should get the opportunity of fifth attempt for the examination as curriculum of that academic year could not be completed due to the pandemic. The NMC discussed the issue and decided to allow fifth attempt for the first year MBBS students of the year 2019-20. Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has also given his approval to this decision.
