NATIONAL INFORMATICS CENTRE (NIC)
- National Informatics Centre (NIC) is under the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. It was established in 1976 and has since emerged as a “prime builder” of e-Governance applications/solutions up to the grassroot level and provider of ICT infrastructure for e-Governance.
- NIC, through its ICT Network, “NICNET”, has institutional linkages with all the Ministries/Departments of the Central government, State governments/UTs and about 648 district administrations of India.
- NIC has set up state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure consisting of National and State Data Centres to manage the information systems and websites of Central Ministries/Departments, Disaster Recovery Centres, and Network Operations facility to manage heterogeneous networks spread across Bhawans, States and Districts.
- NIC services include Certifying Authority, Video Conferencing, NIC e-MAIL (NICeMail) and SMS services across the country.
- National Knowledge Network (NKN) has been set up to connect institutions/ organizations carrying out research.
- Open Technology Centre (OTC) has been set up as a nodal agency for Open Technology related activities in e-Governance applications managed by NIC/NeGP and promotes the use and adoption of Open Source tools/software.
STANDARDIZATION TESTING AND QUALITY CERTIFICATION (STQC) DIRECTORATE
- STQC Directorate is an attached office of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India, providing quality assurance services in the area of Electronics and Information Technology (IT) through countrywide network of laboratories and centres.
- The services included testing, calibration, IT& e-Governance, training and certification of public and private organizations.
- STQC laboratories are having national/international accreditation and recognitions in the area of testing and calibration.
- STQC has also established specialized institutions such as Indian Institute of Quality Management (IIQM) for quality related training programs, Centre for Reliability (CFR) for reliability related services and Centre for Electronics Test Engineering (CETES) for practice oriented skill based trainings.
- STQC is also responsible for maintaining e-Gov standards. Based on this concept Conformity Assessment Framework (CAP) for e-Governance project has also been developed and is in operation.
