 NEW INITIATIVES

  • PROJECT ARROW: Conceived in 2008 it is an initiative to transform Department of Posts into a vibrant and responsive organization. The monitoring of ‘core operations’ is being undertaken in more than 21,600 post offices. ‘Look and Feel’ of the post offices have been improved in 2,615 post offices.
  • MAIL NETWORK OPTIMIZATION PROJECT (MNOP): The aim of this Project has been to streamline mail operations and improve the quality of mail services across the country. Online Tract and Trace system for Speed Post was introduced for customers in order to provide complete end-to-end tracking information for all Speed Post items on the website.
  • AUTOMATED MAIL PROCESSING CENTRES: With a View to automate mail sorting processes and expedite delivery of mail, the Department has set up Automated Mail Processing Centers (AMPCS) at Delhi and Kolkata. These centres are equipped with a Letter Sorting Machine and Mixed Mail Sorter with sorting speed of 35000 and 18000 items per hour. It is proposed to set up AMPCS of Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore during the current plan.
  • GPS EQUIPPED MAIL VANS: The entire fleet of Mail carrying vehicles is being fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) device in order to facilitate monitoring of mail transmission and delivery on a real-time basis.
  • GIS MAPPING: Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping of post offices is being undertaken in selected cities wherein postal establishments such as post offices, letter boxes, PIN code etc. will be displayed on a GIS map displayed at Department of Posts’ website.
  • IMPLEMENTATION OF ‘SEVOTTAM’: Department of Posts has obtained the IS 15700:2005 Certification for the New Delhi GPO for having successfully implemented the Sevottam. In fact, New Delhi GPO was first office in the Central Government to get IS 15700:2005 Certification. This milestone was achieved on 5th April, 2008.
