COMPETITION APPELLATE TRIBUNAL
- The Competition Act, 2002, as amended, provides for establishment of the Competition Appellate Tribunal comprising a Chairperson and 2 members to hear and dispose-off appeals against the orders of the Competition Commission of India.
- The Competition Appellate Tribunal was set up in 2009.
- Competition Appellate Tribunal is chaired by Justice V. S. Sirpurkar, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and 2 Members of the Tribunal are Shri Rahul Sarin, former Secretary to the Government of India and Pravin Tripathi, former Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Dy, C&AG).
- After the dissolution of the erstwhile MRTP Commission, the Government of India vide Ordinance dated 14th October, 2010, vested the COMPAT with powers to hear and dispose-off pending cases, being dealt with by the then MRTP Commission.
- About 1825 pending cases were transferred to this Tribunal, out of which it has disposed-off 1650 cases till the end of June, 2013.
