Dr (Prof) Prashant P Joshi, has been appointed as the new Executive Director, AIIMS Nagpur and officially joined office today. The handing over of charge by Former Executive Director, Dr (Prof) M Hanumantha Rao was held in a formal ceremony in the presence of students, faculty and staff, today.
Dr Joshi, MD (Medicine), MSc (Clinical Epidemiology, UNC, Australia) is medical teacher, researcher, administrator and consultant Physician with over 40 years of experience. He was a former Professor and Head of Department (HOD) of Medicine at AIIMS Nagpur (2019-2023); and Indira Gandhi Govt. Medical College, Nagpur (2008-2019). With over 217 research publications in high impact factor, prestigious journals and principal investigator / steering committee member/ regional coordinator in numerous large, multicentric, WHO-ICMR funded research projects / clinical trials; he has featured in Top 2% Most Influential Scientists in 2023 Stanford University List.
Dr.Joshi is the recipient of prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship for Training at University Newcastle Australia under GOI-USAID Program. He is former President of Academy of Medical Sciences, Nagpur (2006-2007) and the Diabetic Association of India, Nagpur, (2017-18). He is the founding member of IndiaCLEN and former Director Clinical Epidemiology Unit, Government Medical College, Nagpur (2001-03), funded by USAID-GOI and Rockefeller Foundation.
Dr Prashant P Joshi’s strategic vision and unwavering commitment to innovation will undoubtedly pave the way for excellence in patient care, medical education and research at AIIMS Nagpur.
AIIMS Nagpur also organised a Farewell Ceremony for Dr M. H. Rao, who was entrusted the additional charge of AIIMS Nagpur in April 2023. The Ceremony included addressed by various Deans, who highlighted the series of initiatives Dr Rao spearheaded, such as the online doctor appointment booking via eVaidya App, and the groundwork for the launch of Heart Transplant facilities at AIIMS Nagpur.
AIIMS Nagpur, is the first Government Hospital in Central India, to receive Commisurate of Health Services (Maharashtra) Certificate of Registration for Heart Organ Transplantation on 1st of February, paving way for heart transplants at AIIMS Nagpur in the near future. He was solemnly bid farewell by his students, faculty and staff and honoured with memento and shawl as a token of appreciation.
