POWER FINANCE CORPORATION (PFC)
- PFC was incorporated on July 16, 1986, as a part of Government of India’s initiative to enhance funding to power projects in India.
- It was declared a Public Financial Institution (PFI), under Section-4A of Companies Act, in 1990.
- PFC is a Non-Banking Financial Company, providing fund and non-fund based support for the development of Indian Power Sector.
- PFC is under the administrative control of the Ministry of power, with 72% shareholding by the Government of India. Its Registered and Corporate Offices are at New Delhi.
- The Corporation has been conferred with the status of ‘Navratna’ in June 22, 2007.
- RBI has reclassified PFC from a ‘Loan Company’ to an ‘Infrastructure Finance Company’ (IFC) on July 29, 2010.
RURAL ELECTRIFICATION CORPORATION (REC)
- REC was incorporated as a Company under the Companies Act, 1956 in the year 1969 with the main objective of financing rural electrification schemes in the country.
- Subsequently, the mandate of REC was expanded to include financing of all power projects including Generation, Transmission and Distribution without any restriction.
- REC is a Public Financial Institution under Section 4A of the Companies Act, 1956.
- REC is also registered as a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) under Section 45 1A of the RBI Act, 1934 and categorized by RBI as an Infrastructure Finance Company (IFC).
- REC is a “Navratna” company and its equity shares are listed since Financial Year 2007-08 with the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and BSE Limited (BSE).
- The Government of India holds 80% of paid up equity share capital of the Company.
SATLUJ JAL VIDYUT NIGAM LTD
- SJVN was incorporated on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture of the Government of India (G01) and Government of Himachal Pradesh (GOHP) to plan, investigate, execute and operate Hydro Electric Power Projects in Satluj basin in state of Himachal Pradesh with equity contribution of GOI and Himachal as 75:25, respectively.
- SJVN is “Schedule-A” Miniratna Category-I PSU under the administrative control of Ministry of Power.
- After disinvestment by GoI during the year 2010, the present equity contribution between the GOI, GoHP and Public is 46%, 25.51% and 10.03%, respectively.
- Present authorized share capital of SJVN is 7000 Crores. The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (1500 MW) was the first project undertaken by SIVN for execution having six units of 250 MW each.
BHAKRA MANAGEMENT BOARD (BMB)
- BMB was constituted under Section 79 of the Punjab Re-Organisation Act, 1966 for the administration, maintenance and operation of Bhakra Nangal Project with effect from 1October,
- The Beas Project Works, on completion, were transferred by the Government of India from Beas Construction Board (BCB) to BMB and was renamed as Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) from 5.1976.
- BBMB is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of Bhakra Nangal Project, Beas Satluj Link Project and Pong Dam including Power Houses and a network of transmission lines and grid substations.
BEAS MANAGEMENT BOARD (BMB)
- BMB is involved in Administration, Operation & Maintenance of Bhakra-Beas Projects.
- The regulation of the supply of water from Bhakra-Beas Projects to the States of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
- The Govt of India in 1999 has entrusted additional functions of providing and performing engineering and technical consultancy services in field of Hydro Electric Project and Irrigation Projects.
NATIONAL POWER TRAINING INSTITUTE (NPTI)
- NPTI is a registered society under Ministry of Power, is committed to the development of human resources in the power sector for the past four decades.
- NPTI with its corporate centre at Faridabad operates eight institutes all over the country.
- It has five regional institutes located at Neyveli (Tamil Nadu), Durgapur (West Bengal), Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Guwahati (Assam) and two specialized centres v,
- Power Systems Training Institute (PSTI) and Hot Line Training Centre at Bengaluru.
- Centre for Advanced Management and Power Studies at Faridabad (Haryana).
- NPTI (NER) is presently operating from temporary site at Narangi complex, Guwahati, and the full-fledged training institute, is in the advanced stage of completion at Kahilipara, Guwahati.
- The Government has sanctioned a scheme for setting up of Hydro Power Training Centre at Nangal (Punjab).
