Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage employment Scheme. The details of Budget Estimate, Revised Estimate and release of funds for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in the previous financial year 2021-22 are given below:

In last financial year 2021-22, a total of 725.70 lakh households have availed employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS. In the State of Gujarat, 11.43 lakh households have availed employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in financial year 2021-22.

Mahatma Gandhi NREGS is a demand driven wage employment Scheme which provides for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

It provides livelihood security, i.e. fall back option for livelihood for the rural households, when no better employment opportunity is available.

The details of households demanded employment and households offered employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in previous financial year 2021-22 is given below:

As per Section 7(1) of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, “If an applicant for employment under the Scheme is not provided such employment within fifteen days of receipt of his application seeking employment or from the date on which the employment has been sought in the case of an advance application, whichever is later, he shall be entitled to a daily unemployment allowance in accordance with this section.”
