The Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (GKCM) awards for 2016 were conferred on Guru Kishor Kumar Mohanty and Jharana Das for their contribution to the field of dance and cinema, respectively.
This year onwards, the amount of award for lifetime achievement award has been increased to rupees one lakh from Rs 50000, while the Yuva Prativa Samman awardees will get Rs 25,000 each.
A new award ‘Nrutya Kala Samman’ has also been instituted to recognize long and devoted commitment to the practice and performance of the traditional Odissi dance from this year.
The award will be given to Dr Madhubrata Satapathy.
The GKCM Yuva Pratibha Samman awardees are: Rajib Bhattacharya (Kolkata) and Madhusmita Mohanty (Bhubaneswar) for Odissi dance, P Praveen Kumar (Bangalore) for Bharatanatyam and Rupak Kumar Parida (Bhubaneswar) for Odissi music.
