Union Public Service Commission has declared the final result of Civil Services Exam 2020. Due to lockdown, UPSC had to postpone the Prelims, Mains and Interviews by four months. As this process of exam has to be completed, therefore UPSC has took the test, candidates appeared in it and finally list of selected candidates to IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc are finally released by UPSC on 24th September 2021.
24 year old boy Shubham Kumar (Roll No.1519294) has achieved the first rank in Civil Services Exam 2020. His father is Devanad Singh works in Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank. His mother’s name is Punam Devi. He belong to the Kumhari village under Kadwa, one of the worst floods affected blocks of Bihar.
Shubham Kumar cracked the civil services examination in his third attempt. He gave his first attempt in 2018 immediately after graduating from IIT Bombay civil engineering 2018. He failed to crack IAS exam in his first attempt in the 2018 upsc examination.
In his second attempt he got selected in the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) when he got the 290th rank in Civil services exam. He is presently undergoing training at the National Academy of Defence Financial Management (NADFM), Pune.
This year “I was not even expecting to make it to the list, forget bagging the top rank,” he said. He selected Anthropology as his optional subject in the UPSC civil services mains exam.

IAS Topper Subham said ” Now his dream to become an IAS officer and to serve the underprivileged has been realised. “Development of villages, employment generation and poverty alleviation in rural areas of the country would be his focus areas.”
IAS Topper Shubham done his primary education in his local village Kumhari and later he took admission in Vidya Vihar Residential School, Parora in Purnia and passed matriculation in year 2012.
Shubham Kumar joined Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro, in Jharkhand and did his XII in 2014. He topped IIT exam with 219th rank and got admission in IIT Bombay He passed in B.Tech with very good score.

His father said that he got the news through my son who called me from Delhi to inform about the result. He further said that “His aim was to clear IAS from the very beginning and hence he never gave up and even after 290th rank he continued to prepare and today he made all of us proud.”
“My father used to motivate me a lot and helped me in maintaining a positive attitude that helped me in clearing the exam.” said IAS Topper Shubham Kumar.
“My dream was to get into the IAS as it gives a wider platform to work for the betterment of the people. It has been realised and I would like to work for the underprivileged people, especially in rural areas,” he said.

Mr Kumar said he got a lot of support from his father and the academy, especially its director, in preparing for the examination.
Vidya Vihar School chairman Ramesh Mishra also congratulated Shubham for his success. Shubham’s elder sister work as a scientist in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
