Inauguration of Season-Long Training Programme in Cotton Conducted by RCIPMC, Nagpur

Regional Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Nagpur under the aegis of Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare with esteemed dignitaries and experts in the field of agriculture, marked a significant milestone today with the inauguration of a season-long training programme in cotton.

  

The RCIPMC, Nagpur organised this event at the prestigious Airport Centre Point Hotel in Nagpur, where 40 diversified trainees of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh State agriculture department attended to enhance their knowledge in Pest management Strategies in Integrated Pest management of Cotton. This rigorous training with Practical Demonstrations, Participatory action exercises in IPM, Group Dynamics would be conducted for 30 days till 26.10.2023.

The event was graced by several notable personalities from ICAR- CICR, State agriculture Department Geological survey of India, Pay and Accounts of Agriculture, Directorate of Marketing Inspection, Press Information Bureau making it a momentous occasion.

 

Objective of this Programme

The season-long training programme aims to empower 40 trainees from the State Agriculture Department with the latest techniques and best practices of Integrated Pest Management in cotton cultivation. It will cover various aspects of cotton farming, including pest management, crop protection, and sustainable farming methods.

Dr. Y.G. Prasad, Director of ICAR-Central Cotton Research Institute, Nagpur was the esteemed Chief Guest. 

Sh. Milind Shende, District Superintendent of Agriculture, Nagpur Division, added to the significance of the event as the Special Guest. 

Dr. Sunita Pandey, Joint Director (E) of IPM Division, Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storage, Faridabad, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. 

The Training Coordinator and Regional Incharge, Dr. A.K. Bohria, Joint Director (E), Regional Central Integrated Pest Management, Nagpur played a pivotal role in organizing the programme.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Y.G. Prasad has given introduction about history of cotton cultivation in India and role of ICAR-CICR in sharing scientific knowledge about cotton pest and disease management to stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of cotton cultivation in Maharashtra region and other parts of India and commended the efforts of the State Agriculture Department, Maharashtra and CIPMCs in managing pink bollworm in Cotton and promoting skill development among farmers and agricultural professionals. His leadership and commitment to the agricultural development of the region are widely acknowledged by the scientific community.

In his inaugural address Sh. Milind Shinde shared insights from his experience and role of state Agriculture Department in managing pest of cotton and other major crops of Maharashtra. He encouraged trainees to apply their learning to boost cotton production in the region

In his inaugural address Dr. Sunita Pandey pronounced about the History of Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine & Storageand its 05 Divisions- Central Integrated Pest Management Centres (CIPMCs), Plant Quarantine Stations, Locust Warning organisations (LCOs), Central Insecticide Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC), Central Insecticide Laboratory (CIL) and its mandates and functions in Agriculture. She insisted for collabrative efforts with State agriculture Department, ICAR, SAUs, KVKs in Popularizing IPM scheme. Her knowledge in integrated pest management is invaluable, and her presence was greatly appreciated.

In his inaugural address Dr. A.K. Bohria delivered the importance of Integrated pest management (IPM) in managing pest and diseases of cotton as well as other crops. Brief functions of RCIPMC, Nagpur and its activities like survey, conducting Farmer’s field school, Human resource training programmes to state agriculture department and farmers. He expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and trainees for their participation and urged the trainees to make the most of this unique opportunity to enhance their skills.

Dr. Manish Mondhe, Deputy Director (PP) RCIPMC, Nagpur delivered the vote of Thanks to all the dignitaries for their expertise and guidance for the programme. He acknowledged the work done by Officers/ Officials of RCIPMC, Nagpur for their support in successfully organising the Training.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by a series of lectures in the forenoon hands-on training activities designed to equip the trainees with the knowledge and tools necessary for successful implementation of IPM in cotton.
