BANGLADESH

BHUTAN

  • The King of Bhutan visited India in 2014
  • Government of India agreed to extend an assistance package of Rs. 4,500 crores towards 11th Five Year Plan (2013-2018) and Rs. 500 crores towards its Economic Stimulus Package.
  • Narendra Modi visited Bhutan on 15-16 June 2014 on his first visit abroad after assuming office.
  • India continues to be the largest trade and development partner of Bhutan.
  • Three Hydroelectric Projects (HEPs) – Punatsangchhu-I (1200 MW). Punatsangchhu-II (1020 MW) and Mangdechhu (720 MW) are on schedule. The Chukkha HEP (336MW) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013 and the Dungsam Cement Plant constructed with Indian assistance of Rs. 400 crore, has commenced commercial production.

CHINA

  • India and China have declared 2014 as the year of Friendly Exchanges to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence (Panchsheel).
  • India established a Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) with China.

NEPAL

  • India continued to be the largest trading partner and investor in Nepal.
  • Narendra Modi visited Nepal on 3-4 August 2014.
  • PM announced a US $1 billion concessional Line of Credit to Nepal which will be utilized for energy and infrastructural projects of Nepal.
  • An MoU on Indian assistance for goiter control programme and another between Nepal TV and Doordarshan were also signed.
  • PM offered prayers at the Pashupatinath Temple, where he gifted 2500 kg sandal wood and announced all support for restoration of the Pashupatinath Temple Complex.
  • Third meeting of India-Nepal Joint Commision held. The Joint Commission that met after a gap of 23 years.
