- An agreement on Labour Co-operation for Domestic Service Workers (DSWs) Recruitment between the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the Ministry of Labour of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) was signed on 2nd January, 2014.
- Mahatama Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana (MGPSY): It is a specially designed security scheme by MOIA for these overseas Indian workers under ECR category, which encourages these workers, to voluntarily-save for their return and resettlement in India, save for their pension and obtain a life insurance cover. MGPSY is a voluntary scheme.
- e-Migrate project was conceptualized in 2008 to bring in ‘e-Governance in Emigration’.
- Ministry launched the Overseas Workers Resource Centre (OWRC) to provide information and assistance to intending emigrants, overseas workers as well as their family members relating to all aspects of overseas employment. The OWRC is inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India during the sixth Parvasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi in January, 2008.
- To commemorate the evolution and achievements of the Indian-Diaspora Parvasi Bharatiya Kendra (PBK) is being established at Chankayapuri, New Delhi.
- The ‘Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF)’ was established in the Indian Missions which was further established in 157 countries all over the world.
- Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC) was established to promote oiverseas Indian investments. OIFC has nine Associate Partners.
- India Centre of Migration (ICM) was setup as the Centre for Promotion of Overseas Employment (CPOE) and later rechristened as the Indian Council for Overseas Employment (ICOE).
- ICM is a ‘not for profit’ society established by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) in July, 2008 to serve as a ‘think tank’ on all matters relating to international migration.
- SWARANAPRAVAS YOJANA: Its targets are to achieve the targeted training of 2,08,000 workers who will be enabled for overseas employment develop coarse curriculum, upgrade of existing skill development centres.
- The Emigration Act 1983 provides for regulatory frame work of emigration of Indian workers for overseas employment and seek to safeguard their interest.
- There are about 5 million Indian workers all over the world. Saudi Arabia (3.5 lakh), UAE (2lakh), Qatar (0.78 lakh), Oman (0.63 lakh), Malaysia (0.22 lakh).
- One more office of protector of emigrants was started in 2013 at Rae Bareilly,UP.
