India has moved from scarcity to sufficiency in last two decades- Union Finance Minister

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman today participated in the 19th Convocation Ceremony of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune. In her convocation address, the Union Finance Minister inspired the graduating students to adapt and change for a better future. “India has moved from scarcity to sufficiency. In last two decades, we have seen a sea of change from the landline phones to mobile wallets.”

Talking about India’s G-20 Presidency, Union Finance Minister urged students to contribute to One Earth, One Family, One Future. “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken the Presidency of G-20 from 1 December 2022. The objective of India’s presidency is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: One Earth, One Family, One Future’. Prime Minister of India has coined the term LiFE which stands for Lifestyle For Environment. LiFE is indicative towards change and adapting to change. We need to bring changes in our lifestyle in such a manner that we are not burdening the environment, only then we will be able to ensure enough natural resources for the future generations. Otherwise, we may serious challenges relating to climate change.”

Stressing on the need for value-based education, the Finance Minister said that value-based education is highly required at a time when the world is under-going a major reset in the post pandemic era. She exhorted students to follow their heart and intuition in order to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. “The right way of doing things is mostly what your heart and intuition guides you to do. Culturally inherited values give you the strength for this intuitive capacity. The capacity to differentiate between right and wrong is what makes you wiser.”

Union Finance Minister conferred D Litt degrees (honorary Doctor of Letters degree), gold medals and other awards to the students at the Convocation Ceremony of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune. She also interacted with MBA Students from 13 campuses of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune.

This year the University also awarded D.Litt. to His Excellency Pankaj Khimji, Advisor, Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce Industry and International Cooperation, Sultanate of Oman and Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, CG Pandit National Chair, ICMR.

The Convocation Ceremony was presided over by Dr S B Mujumdar, Founder and Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
