The Goa regional office of India Tourism, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, conducted a workshop for Government of India-approved regional level tourist guides in Goa at Paryatan Bhavan, Panaji, on Wednesday, 19 April, 2023. Around 30 regional level guides attended the workshop.
The workshop was organized to give special training to the guides and help them prepare themselves as cultural ambassadors of Goa in view of the upcoming 4th G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting and the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting that are scheduled to be held in Goa between 19 and 22 June, 2023.
The workshop was led by subject experts in three segments — Art, Culture and History of Goa; Behavioral Patterns, Etiquettes & Grooming; and History of Churches & Convents of Goa.
The session on Art, Culture & History of Goa was led by Rohit Phalgaokar, Assistant Professor of History at Sant Sahirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts & Commerce, Pernem, who talked about the history of the state with reference to the rock carvings megalithic period found in Sanguem and Bicholim taluaks, natural and man-made caves, various temples, fold music culture, and performing arts.
The session on Grooming, Behavioral Patterns and Etiquettes was facilitated by Pankaj Kumar Singh and Swati Sharma, faculties of Institute of Hotel Management, Porvorim, while the session on Churches and Convents of Goa was led by Kishor Raghubansh, Assistant Superintendent Archeologist, and Tarang Gharpure, Assistant Archeologist, Archaeological Survey of India, Goa Circle.
As part of the G20 meetings, the guides may be asked to join the excursions and tours being organised for the ministers and delegates to tourist and cultural hotspots in Goa. The workshop is aimed at equipping them to facilitate the G20 delegates in the best manner as per the cultural specifications of respective foreign country.
