Vikram Vishal, an assistant professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, (IIT-B) has won the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA) medal in the Young Scientist category for 2017.
The award carries a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
The award is considered to be the highest recognition for young scientists in the country.
Mr. Vishal is currently working on research that attempts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and their environmental impact by capturing the natural gases.
Indian National Science Academy:
The Indian National Science Academy was established in January 1935 with the object of promoting science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare.
The foundation of the Academy, earlier known as the National Institute of Sciences of India (NISI), was the outcome of joint endeavours of several organizations and individuals and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) playing a leading role in this regard.
