: New Delhi/Mumbai, March 10, 2021
The Oil PSUs, namely Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have decided to set up an integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex having refining capacity of 60 MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum) at Babulwadi in Rajapur Taluka of Ratnagiri District in Maharashtra. The proposed Refinery site had been identified by the three PSUs in consultation with the Government of Maharashtra. However, the State Government vide Notification dated 02.03.2019 has withdrawn the earlier Notification dated 18.05.2017 for acquisition of land for the refinery-cum-petrochemical project.
The Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (RRPCL) has conducted awareness campaign through print and electronic media as well as door to door campaign to impress upon the local population about the benefits of the project as well as to dispel misconception about adverse environment impact by setting up the refinery.
This information was tabled in a written reply by Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to a question asked by Shri Hishey Lachungpa in Rajya Sabha Sabha today.
