Irrigation Schemes

Details of the total number of irrigation schemes including Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) introduced by the Government of India during the period 2018-2021, ccomponent-wise, are given below:

PMKSY- Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) with pari passu implementation of Command Area Development and Water Management (CAD&WM):

During 2016-17, ninety-nine (99) on-going major/ medium Irrigation projects and seven phases have been included for financial assistance under PMKSY-AIBP, along with pari-passu implementation of CADWM. No new project has been included under the scheme after 2016, so far.

PMKSY- Har Khet Ko Pani – Surface Minor Irrigation (HKKP-SMI)

Under (SMI) sub-component of PMKSY-HKKP, a total of 1,321 schemes have been included during 2018-21.

PMKSY-HKKP- Repair, Renovation and Restoration of water bodies (RRR of water bodies)

Under RRR of water bodies sub-component of PMKSY-HKKP, a total of 395 water bodies have been taken up during 2018-21.

PMKSY-HKKP- Ground Water (GW)

Since 2019, in 2018-2021, 15 projects have been approved under Ground Water (GW) sub-component of PMKSY-HKKP.

PMKSY- Per Drop More Crop (PDMC)

Under PMKSY-Per Drop More Crop, an area of 32.697 lakh hectare (ha) has been covered under micro irrigation in the country during this period.

PMKSY-Watershed Development Component (WDC)

Department of Land Resources has taken up 6,382 projects under PMKSY-WDC.

SPECIAL PACKAGE FOR IRRIGATION PROJECT TO ADDRESS AGRARIAN DISTRESS IN CHRONICALLY DROUGHT PRONE AREAS OF MAHARASHTRA (SPECIAL PACKAGE)

A Special Package has been taken up for financial assistance by Government of India in July, 2018 for completion of 83 Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) projects and 8 Major / Medium irrigation projects in drought prone districts in Vidarbha and Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra in phases, up to 2023-24.

NATIONAL AND OTHER PROJECTS

During 2018-21, Government of India has also undertaken the financial assistance of Shahpur Kandi (National) Project and relining of Rajasthan Feeder and Sirhind Feeder in Punjab State. Further, Polavaram Irrigation Project declared as National Project under Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act in March, 2014 is also under implementation. Another project, being North Koel project of Jharkhand & Bihar, is also being provided financial assistance by this Ministry.

(b) & (c) Based on the information provided by Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the percentage of cropped area covered under different forms of irrigation during the last three years, year and State-wise, is given at Annexure-I.

(d) The details of total funds allocated and expenditure incurred for each scheme, along with potential created during the last three years, State and year-wise is given at Annexure-II.
