A media delegation from PIB Mumbai, comprising senior editors and reporters from Maharashtra, is on a Press Tour of Rajasthan from November 2–8, 2025, to gain first-hand insights into the implementation of various Central Government projects across the state.
During the visit to Jodhpur on November 3, the team observed the working and achievements of several central institutes including the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), and the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT). The day concluded with a Heritage Walk through the historic lanes of Jodhpur city.
At CAZRI: Innovations for Desert Agriculture
Dr. S.P.S. Tanwar, Director of CAZRI, briefed the journalists about the institute’s pioneering work in developing sustainable agricultural models for arid and cold desert regions such as the Thar Desert and Leh. He highlighted CAZRI’s research on dune stabilization, water and natural resource management, fruit horticulture, and livestock development, which have significantly improved agricultural productivity and greenery in dry zones.
Researchers also shared advancements in low-water, low-cost crop varieties, integrated farming models, and agro-voltaic systems that combine solar energy with agriculture. The delegation interacted with scientists who showcased innovations in forage production, soil management, and value addition in millets.

At AFRI: Sustainable Forestry in Arid Lands
At the Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), Acting Director Dr. Tarun Kant introduced the team to the institute’s key research and development initiatives, including tree improvement programs, rehabilitation of degraded lands, and soil conservation efforts.
The delegation also learned about AFRI’s work on forest soil health cards, environmental awareness campaigns, and tree grower fairs, which aim to promote environmental sustainability among farmers, schools, and local communities.

At IIHT: Empowering the Handloom Sector
The delegation also visited the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Jodhpur, where Director Shri K.J. Shivgyanam shared insights into the institute’s ongoing efforts to modernize the handloom sector through skill-based courses, technology integration, and entrepreneurship programs.
He said that IIHT aims for 100% employability by aligning courses with industry needs and implementing government-supported schemes such as PMKVY. The institute plays a vital role in fostering innovation and empowering youth in the handloom industry.

In a separate session, Shri Raviveer Chaudhary, Assistant Director, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), briefed the media about various initiatives undertaken to support artisans, including technical training, marketing support, and financial assistance schemes to enhance livelihoods in the handicraft sector.
Cultural Experience: Heritage Walk in Jodhpur
The media team also participated in a Heritage Walk, exploring the rich history, culture, and architecture of the Blue City, Jodhpur.

Next Phase of the Tour
The PIB Mumbai delegation will visit Jaisalmer (Nov 4–5) to study BSF-led projects and renewable energy (solar and wind) initiatives, followed by a visit to Barmer (Nov 6) to explore refinery operations and best practices.
The tour will conclude in Jaipur (Nov 7–8), where the journalists will visit railway projects and prominent heritage sites.
This Press Tour provides journalists from Maharashtra with a unique opportunity to witness the implementation of Central Government schemes on the ground and share development stories from Rajasthan with their readers.
