Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Ramdas Athawale today distributed Assistive Devices to Divyang Jan, under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) and ADIP (Assistance to Disabled persons for purchasing / fitting of aids / appliances) in Mumbai.
Different types of assistive devices were distributed among 1,416 Divyangjan including 259 wheel chairs, 206 Tricycles, 19 C. P Chairs and some other devices.
Union Minister Shri Athawale said ‘Divyangta Khel Kendras’ will be established in the country for world class training of our athletes. He added that our para-athletes have been performing brilliantly at various events.
The Government is establishing a Centre for Disability Sports Centre at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, which will be completed by mid-2022.
MoS, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment informed that since 2014, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has organised 11,024 ADIP camps where Assistive Devices were distributed among 20.97 lakh beneficiaries. Shri Athawale added in Maharashtra, 1,013 ADIP camps were organised and 2.31 lakh Divyangjan were given Assistive Devices.
Minister also informed that Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan (Accessible India Campaign) was launched by the Government in 2015 to provide universal accessibility to persons with disabilities so that they can live a meaningful life with dignity.
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr Probodh Seth said the distribution of Assistive Devices helps in physical, psychological and social empowerment of the Divangjan. In last 7 years, 12 lakh people have been benefitted under the ADIP programme and 10 Guiness Records have been registered, he added.
