Ministry of Information and Broadcasting changes nomenclature of Bureau of Outreach Communication to Central Bureau of Communication

Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to change the nomenclature of erstwhile Bureau of Outreach Communication (BOC), which has its Headquarters at New Delhi to Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in a recent order.

In this regard, all the subordinate offices of Bureau of Outreach Communication, which were erstwhile called Regional Outreach bureau at the Regional Level and Field Outreach Bureau(FOB) at the branch level to be renamed to Central Bureau of Communication. The decision has been taken in view of keeping uniformity in nomenclature of BOC and its Regional and Field Offices.

Goa has a field unit of Central Bureau of Communication[erstwhile FOB Goa] which comes under the jurisdiction of Central Bureau of Communication, Maharashtra and Goa– with headquarters at Pune.

The office of Central Bureau of Communication is engaged in the task of publicizing various programmes and policies of the Government of India through its network of 148 Field Units under the control and supervision of 23 Regional Offices. The primary function of CBC is to publicize, inform, educate and communicate in rural areas.

Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) was set up on 8th December, 2017 by integration of erstwhile Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and Song & Drama Division (S&DD). The Bureau aims at providing 360 degree communication solutions to the Ministries/Departments/ Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)/autonomous bodies. It acts as an advisory body to the Government on media strategy.
