Mumbai, 28th June 2025
Mumbai Customs Zone-III has arrested an Indian national for attempting to smuggle exotic wildlife species into India. The passenger arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport on June 27, 2025, from Bangkok by Flight No. 6E1052. Based on spot profiling, Customs officers intercepted the individual for further checks.
Upon questioning, the passenger exhibited signs of nervousness. Subsequent examination of the baggage led to the discovery of several exotic wildlife species being carried illegally. The following species were recovered:
1. Garter Snake (Thamnophis spp.) – 2 Nos.
2. Rhinoceros Rat Snake (Gonyosoma boulengeri) – 5 Nos.
3. Albino Rat Snake (Pantherophis guttatus) – 1 No.
4. Kenyan Sand Boa (Gongylophis colubrinus) – 2 Nos.
5. Coastal Banded California King Snake (Lampropeltis californiae) – 1 No.
6. Albino Honduran Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis) – 5 Nos.
The animals were seized under a Panchanama dated 28th June 2025. The passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
