Nehru Yuva Kendra, Goa unit with the help of 744 youth clubs taking cleanliness drive to every village panchayat


Goa, October 23, 2021

Nehru Yuva Kendra, Goa unit today organized a cleanliness drive at Betalbatim beach in the line of nationwide ‘Clean India’ campaign. Shri Prakash Manure, State Director, NYKS; Shri Ramesh Gaonkar, Deputy collector, South Goa; Shri Kalidas Ghatwal , Deputy Director, NYK, were present on this occasion. More than 200 youths participated in the cleanliness drive.


 

“Nehru Yuva Kendra feels proud to contribute to the vision of ‘Clean India’ set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur. By the end of this October, 7500 metric tons of waste, mainly single use plastics will be collected and disposed properly throughout the country” said Shri Prakash Manure.

Goa, as a tourist destination, needs to maintain cleanliness, and the state government with the coordination of central government agencies is doing this on war foot, stated deputy collector Shri Ramesh Gaonkar.

Nehru Yuva Kendra with the National Service Scheme has organized a cleanliness drive in the state from October 1. The Key Activities of the programme are collection of waste, mainly Single Use Plastic, Village Beautification Drives and Cleanliness and Maintenance of Traditional Water Sources. In the State of Goa, 3, 809 students are participating in the campaign.

The “Clean India” Program of the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is aimed at creating awareness, mobilization of people and ensuring their involvement in the Clean India initiative.
The programme is being organized in six Lakh villages of 744 Districts across the country through the networks of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) affiliated Youth Clubs & National Service Scheme affiliated Institutions.
