New Zealand Wins Rugby World Cup

IAS Prelims 2023

New Zealand has won the Rugby World Cup for a record third time by beating Australia in final match.

In the Final played at the Twickenham Stadium in London, the All Blacks eclipsed Australia’s superb second half performance to become the first team ever to retain the title.

Playing his 112th and likely last Test of his record breaking career, Dan Carter led from the front helping the All Blacks win its first World Cup outside New Zealand with a 34-17 scoreline.

He scored a dropped goal, penalty from the halfway and a right-footed conversion of Beauden Barrett’s breakaway try in the final 10 minutes. Carter scored 19 points in the highest scoring World Cup Final.

Since 2011, New Zealand has won 49 of the 54 games under coach Steve Hansen.
