PM interacts with state and district officials on the COVID-19 situation
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with the state and district officials on the COVID-19 situation through video conference.
During the interaction, the officials thanked the Prime Minister for his leadership in the battle against Covid-19. The officials briefed the Prime Minister about the improving covid situation in their respective districts. They shared their experience of using technology for real-time monitoring and capacity building. They also informed about the steps taken to enhance public participation and awareness in their districts.

Breaking the Chain of Covid 19 infection – Bhosi village of Nanded district shows the way
Preventing the spread of Covid 19 in rural is a relatively complicated process due to the lack of testing facilities and health infrastructure, as compared to urban areas. However, Bhosi, a village of 6,000 people in the Bhokar Taluka of Nanded district has showed the way of fighting the Covid 19 pandemic by simply adopting the path of isolation.

More than 21 crore vaccine doses provided to States/UTs
Government of India has so far provided, both through the free of cost category and through direct state procurement category, more than 21 crore vaccine doses (21,07,31,130) to States/UTs. Of this, the total consumption (including wastages) is 19,09,60,575 doses (as per data available at 8 AM today).Nearly 2.00 crore (1,97,70,555) COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.Furthermore, nearly 26 lakh (25,98,760) vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.

On Mission Mode, Around 200 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far
Oxygen Expresses deliver nearly 12630 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen in more than 775 tankers to the Nation.10 loaded Oxygen Expresses on run with more than 784 MT of LMO in 45 tankers. Oxygen Expresses delivering more than 800 MT of LMO to the Nation each day now. Oxygen relief by Oxygen Expresses reaches out to 13 states namely Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi & Uttar Pradesh. So far 521 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 3189 MT in UP, 521 MT in MP, 1549 MT in Haryana, 772 MT in Telangana, 98 MT in Rajasthan, 641 MT in Karnataka, 320 MT in Uttarakhand, 584 MT in Tamil Nadu, 292 MT in Andhra Pradesh, 111 MT in Punjab, 118 MT in Kerala and more than 3915 MT in Delhi

Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India releases Advisory on “Stop the Transmission, Crush the Pandemic – Masks, distance, sanitation and ventilation to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus”
The advisory highlights the important role well-ventilated spaces play in diluting the viral load of infected air in poorly ventilated houses, offices etc. Ventilation can decrease the risk of transmission from one infected person to the other.

Update on COVID Relief Aid
Government of India has been receiving international cooperation of COVID-19 relief medical supplies and equipment since 27th April 2021 from different countries/organisations. These are being promptly dispatched/delivered to the States and UTs.
Cumulatively, 13,093 Oxygen Concentrators; 15,801 Oxygen Cylinders; 19 Oxygen Generation Plants; 10,425 ventilators/ BiPAP; ~6.1 L Remdesivir vials delivered/ dispatched through road and air, from 27th April 2021 to 19th May 2021.

Uninterrupted delivery of Medical Essentials continues from Trivandrum Airport
Trivandrum Airport and its frontline corona warriors have been playing an active role to combat Covid-19 by facilitating the seamless delivery of medical essentials.
A total 313 boxes (9.76 MT) of COVID-19 vaccines have been transported through various airlines till 19th May 2021 through the Trivandrum Airport. To overcome the oxygen crisis, a total of 300 oxygen concentrators, 180 oxygen cylinders were transported by Indian Air Force aircraft like C17, AN 32 till 19th May 2021 in Kerala via Trivandrum.

Minister of Steel and Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan today dedicatedto the people, augmented ICU Ventilator facilities atIspat Post Graduate Institute (IPGI) and Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) of SAIL at Rourkela, Odisha for treatment of Covid patients. The IPGI and SSH Complex was dedicated to the Nation by the Hon’ble President of India on 21st March, 2021.
Union Education Minister chairs a meeting with Directors of IISc,IITs,IIITs,IISERs and NITs to review the situation of COVID management and imparting online education
Union Minister of Education Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today chaired a meeting with Directors of IISc/IITs/IIITs/IISERs and NITs through Video Conferencing. Minister of State for Education Shri Sanjay Dhotre also attended the meeting. During the meeting, Shri Amit Khare, Secretary, Higher Education Ministry of Education and Directors of IITs, IISc, IISERs, NITs, IIITs were also present.
Union Minister exhorted that there is a need to maintain the quality education in these Institutes of National Importance besides taking adequate safety measures for managing COVID-19 situation. The status of imparting online education, virtual laboratory courses by these Institutes was also reviewed by the Minister. Directors of the institutes mentioned that they have already started online teaching since the commencement of initial lockdown in March’20. Some of the institutions have also developed their own app for online teaching and evaluation. They also informed that for students facing connectivity issue, the lecture contents were made available even for later use which they can download from anywhere and study. Teachers have interacted through online classes with their students and guided them.
The status of COVID cases in the campus of these institutions and handling of situation arising thereon by these Institutes was also discussed.

Government extends certain timelines in light of severe pandemic
The Central Government, in continuation of its commitment to address the hardship being faced by various stakeholders on account of the severe Covid-19 pandemic, has, on consideration of representations received from various stakeholders,decided to extend timelines for compliances under the Income-tax Act,1961 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”) in certain cases.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh warns against self-styled remedy for COVID-19
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today conducted a COVID awareness programme for officers at VigyanBhawan, New Delhi during which besides discussing practical aspects related to pandemic, a video presentation was also made. He warned against self-styled remedy to treat COVID-19.
Chairing a meeting about an awareness campaign for the officers and staff of DoNER here, he advised for professional medical consultation for infected persons. He also asked the common man not to share information on COVID remedies without checking the facts.

Maharashtra: As a precautionary measure, in case a third wave of Corona virus hits Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to set up four COVID Care Centres with a combined capacity of 5,500 beds. 1,000 of these beds will be ICU beds while at least 70 per cent of remaining beds will be oxygen beds.
Meanwhile, Bombay High Court has asked Mumbai’s civic body, if it is ready to introduce a door-to-door COVID-19 Vaccination Programme for senior citizens and disabled persons who are unable to visit inoculation centres.
Gujarat: Gujarat recorded 5,246 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. According to the State Health Department, 9,001 patients recovered during the last 24 hours and were discharged from the hospitals. A total 6,69,490 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Gujarat till now. The recovery rate has improved and reached up to 86.78 per cent. Maximum 1,296 new cases of COVID-19 reported from Ahmedabad. With these, the death toll due to COVID-19 in the state has reached up to 9,340.Gujarat has now 92,617 active cases at present, out of which 742 patients are on ventilator.
Rajasthan: Rajasthan recorded 139 more COVID-19 fatalities and 9,849 new cases on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 7,219 and infection tally to 8,89,513. Of the fresh cases, the maximum 2,338 were reported from Jaipur while Udaipur saw 550 new cases. A total of 7,29,168 people have recovered from infection so far and the number of active cases at present is 1,53,126.
Madhya Pradesh: Corona positivity rate came down to 6.9 % on Wednesday in the state. 5,065 new cases were registered in the state and 88 patients lost their lives during last 24 hours. As the number of patients in hospitals has reduced and the number of deaths has also gone down, recoveries have increased in Bhopal.Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has directed that a dedicated task force should be set up for arrangements related to the treatment of Black Fungus. This task force will comprise experts including Health minister, Minister of Medical Education and senior officials of the concerned departments.
Chhattisgarh: In Chhattisgarh, COVID vaccination campaign is continuing vigorously. So far, 75 per cent of the people aged above 45 years have been given the first dose of COVID vaccine. Meanwhile, the situation of Corona virus infection is improving steadily in the state. More than 77,000 COVID patients have recovered after treatment within a week. The state’s recovery rate rose to 89 per cent.In view of the increasing number of corona patients in Balod district, officers and employees of the district administration have set up a Covid Centre with 42-beds. This centre has more than 100 oxygen cylinders. In Durg district, the teachers have started a campaign for ‘Annadan’ under Sewa Samarpan Mission.
Goa: Goa on Wednesday reported 1,209 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 31 deaths, taking the tally to 1,39,985 and the toll to 2,228 while 2,160 people recovered. The number of recovered patients in Goa now stands at 1,14,793 while the count of active cases is 22,964.
Assam: COVID-19 positivity rate in the state declined further on Wednesday, but deaths continued to remain a worry with 89 new casualties reported on Wednesday.Altogether 6,143 new infections were detected on Wednesday out of 1,02,040 test conducted across the state. The positivity rate has fallen to 6.47 on Wednesday. To increase oxygen production in the state the Cabinet decided to provide power free of cost if any defunct oxygen plant is revived, if a new oxygen plant is set up or if an additional unit is set up by existing plant.
Manipur:Even as the number of fresh infections dipped slightly with 582 testing positive in the last 24 hours, the second wave of COVID-19 has claimed a record 23 deaths, the highest so far. Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Porompat is providing free ambulance service along with oxygen for needy patients.Equipment for the installation of oxygen plants at Churachandpur and Thoubal district and 10 oxygen concentrators have reached Imphal by air on Wednesday.
Meghalaya:Meghalaya registered its highest ever death toll of 24 on Wednesday pushing the fatality number to 379.872 new Covid-19 cases were also detected on the day, taking the total tally of active cases to 5,789.The state has a stock one lakh doses which would last around 10 days.As of Wednesday, the government has vaccinated 3,45,007 persons with the first dose while 74,119 of them have received their second dose. 13,761 citizens in the 18-44 age group have also been administered the first dose of vaccine.The total doses administered till date stands at 4,19,126.
Sikkim: 266 new Covid cases, 222 more recoveries.The State’s active Covid tally is 3,092. So far, 47 persons have succumbed to coronavirusin Sikkim in the past 10 days.
Tripura:Tripura reported 879 positive cases with positivity rate of 8.63 and in the same time 316 person recovered and 3 died. Total 10,185 samples were tested in the same time. Meanwhile Tripura government has formed a ‘Corona Crisis Management Group’ to control the COVID-19 situation in the state with the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb heading the state-level committee.
Nagaland: Nagaland reports 244 new Covid cases and 6 fatalities on Wednesday. Active cases are 4425 while tally goes up to 18,714. Total lockdown extended in Nagaland for another 10 days till May 31. Schools to resume online classes from May 24. Oxygen cylinder depot to be set up at Chumukedima police complex for efficient distribution and to minimize turnaround time for oxygen cylinders. Dimapur ramps up beds for Covid patients to 296, over 100 more in the offing.
Kerala: The new 21-member Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet was sworn–in this after noon at a function in the state capital by strictly complying Covid protocols. The first Cabinet meeting slated this evening is expected to take major decisions on Covid management. Meanwhile studies have revealed that the highly transmissible variant of Coronavirus is more prevalent in Kerala. The state clocked 32,762 Covid-19 cases and daily death toll crossed hundred yesterday. TPR stood at 23.31%. Black Fungus has been confirmed in 13 patients in five districts. So far a total of 85,96,696 people have been vaccinated in the state. Of this, 65,77,163 took first dose and 20,19,533 second dose. Meantime, the stock of vaccine for people aged above 45 has diminished below 50,000 doses forcing the health department to slow down the inoculation.
Tamil Nadu:TN Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday launched the Covid-19 vaccination drive for persons in the age group of 18-44 years at an event in Tiruppur. CM also inaugurated a Covid care centre with 500 oxygen beds at Salem Steel Plant today. Stalin is presently touring Salem, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchy to review Covid related works of the government for two days from today. Covid-19 vaccinations for 18-44 age group to commence in the Union Territory of Puducherry from May 20. Puducherry logged 1,759 new cases of fresh coronavirus and 29 deaths during the last 24 hours.TN is emerging as the State with highest number of Covid cases across India with 34,875 fresh infections and 303 deaths being reported on Wednesday taking the active cases to 2.07 lakh. Till date 70,82,380 have been vaccinated across the State, of which 51,52,220 received first dose and 19,30,160 received second dose.
Karnataka:As per the State Government bulletin released for 19-05-2021, New Cases Reported: 34,281; Total Active Cases: 5,58,890; New Covid Deaths: 468; Total Covid Deaths: 23,306. Around 66,305 were vaccinated yesterday with a total of 1,14,28,711 having been vaccinated in the state till now. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced Wednesday financial assistance worth Rs 1,250 crore for those affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. The KSRTC on Wednesday launched ‘Sarige Suraksha ICU on Wheels’ and added another ‘Oxygen on Wheels’ to the fleet of 12 such buses being operated by the four transport corporations to help Covid-19 patients in need.
Andhra Pradesh: State reported 23,160 new Covid-19 cases after testing 1,01,330 samples with 106 deaths, while 24,819 got discharged during the last 24 hours. Total cases: 14,98,532; Active cases: 2,09,736; Discharges: 12,79,110; Deaths: 9686. A total of 76,60,595 doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the state as on yesterday, which include 53,56,609 first doses and 23,03,986 second doses. In a sign that the State is on a recovery path, more Covid-19 patients were declared cured than new cases reported in the 24 hours. In an attempt to ramp up the medical infrastructure in the state, CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy virtually inaugurated CT scan and MRI facilities at four teaching hospitals in the state on Wednesday. To support children who were orphaned by the pandemic, the government has further announced that it will make a fixed deposit of Rs 10 lakh each in the name of such children and the scheme is applicable to those below 18 years of age and belonging to BPL families. Meanwhile, the police have rescued as many as 4,257 street children, including child labourers, runaway kids and children who lost their parents to Covid-19, across the state on the first day of the four-day ‘Operation Muskaan Covid-19 Phase-7 drive’.
Telangana:CM KCR visited the Gandhi Hospital (Hyderabad) which is the nodal hospital for Covid-19 treatment in the state yesterday and interacted with the patients. The State Government has invited Global Tenders for procurement of One Crore Covid vaccines in the next six months. State Director of Public Health has issued orders to all private hospitals treating Covid patients in the state not to insist on Covid Positivity report to admit the patients. This order comes as per the Central Govt guidelines for treatment of Covid patients. Eighth Oxygen Express with six tankers carrying 87.85 Metric Tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen arrived in Hyderabad yesterday from Angul in Odisha. Meanwhile, a total of 3,837 new Covid cases and 25 fatalities were reported in the state yesterday taking the total number of cases in the state to 5,40,603 and fatalities to 3037. The number of Active Cases in the state now stands at 46,946. Covid vaccination drive could not take place in the state yesterday also due to shortage of vaccines.
Punjab: The total number of patients tested Positive is 517954. Number of active cases is 70499. Total Deaths reported is 12525. Total COVID-19 Vaccinated with 1st dose (Healthcare + Frontline Workers) is 834390. Total COVID-19 Vaccinated with 2nd dose (Healthcare + Frontline Workers) is 241345. Total above 45 Vaccinated with 1st dose is 2617145. Total above 45 Vaccinated with 2nd dose is 437675.
Haryana: Total Number of Samples found positive till date is 716507. Total active COVID-19 patients are 70758. Number of deaths is 7076. Cumulative number of people vaccinated till date is 5060519.
Chandigarh: Total Lab confirmed COVID-19 cases are 56927. Total number of Active Cases is 6570. Total number of COVID-19 deaths till date is 656.
Himachal Pradesh: Total number of patients tested COVID positive till date is 170074. Total number of Active Cases is 35124. Total deaths reported till date is 2516.
