Press Information Bureau (PIB) in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Communication organized an educational workshop at Don Bosco College in Panaji, Goa today. The workshop, led by Gautam S Kumar, Deputy Director at Press Information Bureau, Panaji, was dedicated to countering misinformation by enhancing media literacy. Directed at students of the Mass Communication Department, the session also aimed at providing essential tools for identifying, analyzing, and addressing misinformation in the present communication environment.
The primary purpose of this workshop was to introduce students to the concept of media literacy and empower them to confront the challenges posed by fake news and false narratives. During the session, participants engaged in discussions about the growing threat of DeepFakes and deliberated on techniques for recognizing deceptive media content. Practical exercises allowed students to actively differentiate genuine videos from counterfeit ones.
Students shared their perspectives on news and misinformation, contributing innovative ideas for improving fake news detection methods. This exchange of ideas promoted critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the evolving media landscape.
Furthermore, the event included the presentation of prizes for an essay writing competition conducted ahead of the workshop. Recognizing and encouraging students’ insightful contributions added value to the workshop. Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communication hope to organize more such workshops across educational institutions in the state.
