BUILDING MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGY PROMOTION COUNCIL (BMTPC)
- BMPTC is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India, has been working towards smooth transfer of cost effective, energy-efficient, environment-friendly and disaster resistant building materials and construction technologies since 1990.
- With the efforts of the Council, a number of building materials and technologies based on agro-industrial wastes such as flash based bricks/blocks, cellular light weight concrete, bamboo based materials, bagasse boards etc. have been successfully introduced in the housing sector.
- Partial pre-fabrication is another area which has been implemented successfully in housing construction in different parts of the country.
- With the efforts of the Council, a number of Indian Standards have been formulated in association with Bureau of Indian Standards on cost effective technologies such as flyash bricks, RCC planks and joist, bamboo mat corrugated roofing sheets etc.
- Through Performance Appraisal Certification Scheme (PACS), the Council is carrying out performance evaluation of new and emerging materials.
HINDUSTAN PREFAB LIMITED
- Creation of Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL), a Civil Engineering Company presently engaged in Project Management Consultancy Services including housing and Urban Infrastructure Projects, was the brainchild of Jawaharlal Nehru, to meet the immediate housing need for displaced persons migrated from West Pakistan.
- Thereafter it has come off age and earned its name and fame by pioneering the PRC railway sleepers which have replaced the wooden as well as stainless steel sleepers in Indian Railways.
- HPL is one of the Executing Agencies of GoI for the projects under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission JNNURM): Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) and Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), projects under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) etc.
