The Indian Navy’s Maritime Awareness Car Expedition, ‘Sam No Varunah’ commenced its fourth leg from Goa on 09 Apr 23.
The rally was flagged off by Rear Admiral Vikram Menon VSM, Flag Officer Goa Naval Area. The Western Naval Command team led by Commodore Anirudh Roy comprises 43 participants from among serving officers (including women officers), sailors and veterans. Members of NWWA, led by Mrs. Shashi Tripathi, President NWWA (Western Region), are also part of the expedition. The team will cover a distance of over 3000 kms to reach Bhuj on 19 Apr 23.
Passing through the coastal states of Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat, the expedition team will reach out to various schools, educational institutions, old age homes and orphanages to contribute to community development and empowerment.
Coastal clean up of beaches, awareness campaigns about the Navy and interactions with students, NCC cadets, senior citizens and veterans are also planned enroute. The team will pay tribute to the bravehearts at the Angre War Memorial at Alibag and the Khukri Memorial at Diu.
The team undertook beach cleanup at Bogmalo and interacted with the Old Age Home at Assagao, Mapusa before making a night halt near Jaigad.
The main objective of the car rally is to promote awareness about the Indian Navy and its career opportunities and achievements among the masses. The rally also aims to showcase the diverse culture, traditions and rich maritime history of the regions enroute.
