Cheteshwar Pujara has become the joint second-fastest Indian batsman to 4,000 Test runs.
He reached the milestone in his 84th innings, the same as former captain Rahul Dravid needed when he did so in August 2001.
Pujara now slots behind Virender Sehwag (81 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (81) in the all-time list of Indian batsmen.
He got the 4,000 mark on day one of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the SSC in Colombo.
He also became the seventh Indian to score a century in his 50th Test. Virat Kohli, VVS Laxman, Kapil Dev, Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath and Polly Umrigar each marked their 50th Tests with centuries.
