Government of India is implementing rapeseed & mustard Seed Minikit distribution programme under National Food security Mission –Oilseeds (NFSM-OS) with aims and objective to introduce and popularize latest released High Yielding Varieties (HYVs)/ hybrids and their promotion and spread among farmers. Government has allocated 8.20 lakh of minikits of rapeseed & mustard seed in 15 major Mustard growing states with financial outlay of Rs. 1066.78 lakhs during Rabi 2021-22.
The shortlisted states for distribution of rapeseed and mustard seed minikits under National Food Security Mission (Oilseeds) during Rabi 2021-22 are Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. To promote hybrid mustard varieties, the Government has approved a pilot project for 1.20 lakhs Hybrid seed mini kits distribution of Mustard through National Seeds Corporation (NSC) with total cost of Rs. 779.96 lakhs under National Food Security Mission-Oilseeds (NFSM-OS).
In the mustard, initiative for hybrid development such as CMS based hybrid, 5 varieties of Indian mustard and one variety of yellow sarson are undertaken for popularizing climatic resilient rapeseed-mustard varieties in various states through various programme by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research (DRMR), Bharatpur, Rajasthan. These hybrids and varieties having tolerance to biotic & abiotic stresses and quality traits has been recommended for specific growing conditions.
The Hybrid seed are demonstrated in the farmer’s field by ICAR and being cultivated by the farmers in the notified states. The yields of the Hybrids are superior than High Yielding Variety (HYVs). Hybrid Mustard seed mini kits have been distributed to major Mustard growing States, such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat during Rabi 2021-22.
