Tihar Jail Gets First Woman SP

Anju Mangla has become the first woman SP, incharge of Tihar jail.

Two women, Kiran Bedi and Vimla Mehra, have earlier served as DG of the jail, but it is for the fist time that a woman has been appointed as superintendent.

Having served as the superintendent of a women’s jail, she says that her mantra is to create a personal rapport with the prisoners, whether male or female.

An officer of the 2007 batch, Mangla was heading the women’s prison in jail 6. In jail 7, she was in charge of around 900 prisoners.
