Union Minister of Environment Forest & Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav addresses Valedictory Session of 1st International Environment and Sustainable Summit, Goa

The 1st International Environment & Sustainability Summit Goa drew to a close today. Union Minister of Environment Forest & Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav addressed the valedictory session. With a theme to build a sustainable future, the summit aimed to present sustainability solutions and best practices, build, network and enhance learning experiences and provide a platform for sharing of experiences, success stories and innovative ideas.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav underlined that the idea of sustainability encompasses not just humans but every living creature on the planet. Describing how the development process has led to the generation of a large amount of waste, the minister pointed out that waste to wealth technologies and the circular economy are crucial to ensuring sustainability. Circular economy is the key to ensuring that goals concerning development and environmental protection are achieved simultaneously, he added.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav also listed some of the measures Government of India is taking to achieve the goal of sustainable development. He highlighted how the Union budget has allocated 35,000 crore towards green growth and how through the green credits initiative, the Union Government wants to emphasize its commitments to a sustainable future. The minister further listed India’s Initiatives on the global stage, such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and Leadership Group of Industry Transition as some examples of the country’s visionary climate action.

Goa Minister of Environment & Climate Change, Nilesh Cabral highlighted some of the steps taken by the Government of Goa to ensure that needs of development and sustainability are met. He called for every citizen to become a stakeholder in the process of transition to a more sustainable future.

The session also saw the launch of the Summit Souvenir by the Union Minister.Also present at the event were Chief Secretary of the Government of Goa, Puneet Kumar Goel, Chairman of Goa State Pollution Control Board,Mahesh K Patil and Deputy Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry, Seema Arora.
