: Mumbai, April 13, 2025
In a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports successfully organized the ‘Jai Bhim Padyatra’ today 13th April 2025. This landmark initiative was held for the first time simultaneously across all major state capitals in India, marking a significant moment in the nationwide celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti.
In Mumbai, the padyatra was led by Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Smt. Raksha Khadse. Over 2,000 MY Bharat volunteers participated in the march, which commenced from Nariman Point and culminated at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Mantralaya, thereby serving a powerful demonstration of unity and commitment to the values of justice, equality, and fraternity.
Addressing the participants on the occasion, MoS Smt. Raksha Khadse expressed pride in India’s democratic legacy and highlighted the relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s teachings. She said, “We are proud to live in a country where great men like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar revolutionized society to give us freedom and show us the path ahead”. As citizens of this nation, it is our duty not just to celebrate Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Jayanti, but to also imbibe his ideas in our lives and carry them forward, urged the minister.
The key highlights of the Padyatra include the participation of National Youth Awardees, MLAs and youth icons who were felicitated on the occasion. Tribute Corners displaying inspirational quotes by Dr. Ambedkar, live street performances centered on themes of social justice, and Pledge Points where youth reaffirmed their commitment to constitutional values, all contributed to the vibrant and meaningful atmosphere of the march.
The event concluded with a unified act of homage—the ceremonial cleansing of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Mantralaya. This symbolic gesture was mirrored at similar events across the country. Activities such as statue-cleaning drives and floral tributes were conducted in districts nationwide today.
The ‘Jai Bhim Padyatra’ marked the ninth in a series of 24 monthly padyatras organized as part of the commemoration of 75 years of the Indian Constitution. These padyatras serve as symbolic journeys, connecting India’s youth to the timeless ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar.
Dignitaries present at the Mumbai Padyatra included Minister of the Government of Maharashtra Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, former Minister in the state government Shri Rajkumar Badole, former Member of Parliament Shri Amar Sable, State Director of NYKS in Maharashtra and Goa Shri Prakash Kumar Manure, Regional Director of NSS Maharashtra Shri Ajay Shinde and officials from the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has invited young citizens across the nation to continue participating in this powerful movement by registering on the MY Bharat Portal at www.mybharat.gov.in, and to walk together on the path of democracy, dignity, and unity.
