As part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) [AYJNISHD(D)], an autonomous organisation under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India has released the Indian National Anthem in Universal Design. This version of the Indian National anthem has features of Universal Design, such as audio/video description for for visually-impaired persons, and Indian Sign Language and Captions for persons suffering from hearing disabilities. Captions are available in 14 Indian Languages and English Language. The special version of the national anthem has been released by the institute today, August 13, 2022.
Speaking to Press Information Bureau, Dr Mathew Martin PJ , Media Officer, AYJNISHD(D) explained that Universal Design is design and composition that can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people, regardless of their age, ability or disability. “Indian National Anthem in Universal Design enhances the accessibility of our anthem. By screening this version of the Indian National Anthem, all Special Schools and organizations for the visually-impaired persons and persons suffering from hearing disability can enable equal participation for all in the rendition of the national anthem.”
This version of the Indian National anthem has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for Universal and Educational viewing. It is also available in DVD format at the Indian Sign Language Cell of the Mumbai campus of the Institute.
