Group of Secretaries under guidance of Ministers has identified following activities:
- Scheme for rehabilitation and upgradation of existing STPS along Ganga.
- Ensuring 100% sewerage infrastructure in identified towns alongside Ganga.
- In situ sewage treatment in open drains.
- Support for preparation of DPRs.
- River Front Management for Ghats developments in selected cities and towns.
- Industrial pollution abatement at Kanpur on priority.
- Action Plan for Char Dham Yatra – Public amenities, waste disposal and sanitation.
- Capacity building of urban local bodies.
- Afforestation—Conservation of Flora
- Conservation of Aquatic life—special attention on Dolphins, Turtles and Ghariyals etc.
- Disposal of flowers and other puja material.
- Ganga Vahini.
- GIS data and Spatial Analysis for Ganga basin.
- Study of communities depending on Ganga for their traditional livelihood.
- National Ganga Monitoring Centre.
- Special guidelines for sand mining in Ganga.
- Study of possible diversion of a portion of River Bhagirathi at Dharasu.
- Assessment of Special Properties of Ganga Water.
- Communication and Public Outreach Activities.
NRI GANGA FUND
- To harness their enthusiasm to contribute towards the conservation of the river Ganga, NRI Fund for Ganga will be set up which will finance special projects.
- NRI Ganga Fund could be setup under the aegis of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs or Ministry of Finance, with focus on funds sourcing and corpus management.
- Fund deployment/ appropriation could be made by NMCG under an approved Management Plan.
NATIONAL MISSION FOR CLEAN GANGA (NMCG)
- National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is the implementation wing of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA). It is a registered society originally formed by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC) in 2011.
- Both NGRBA and NMCG are allocated to the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD & GR).

- The mandate of NGRBA is being implemented by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
- At national level NMCG is the coordinating body and is being supported by States Level Program Management Groups (SPMGS) of UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar and West Bengal which, are also registered as societies and a dedicated Nodal Cell in Jharkhand.
