The verification of rhino horns stored in Golaghat Treasury in Assam have been completed by the Rhino Horn Verification Committee.
The exercise was aimed at compiling a database of the rhino horns kept in various treasuries of Assam for their transparent verification as decided by the Committee for Examination of Rhino Horns.
Altogether 1,195 rhino horns kept in 39 boxes in the Golaghat Treasury were verified in two phases spanning four days.
Every single horn was examined by the Committee members, including Field Laboratory Scientists of the State Forensic Laboratory.
The Committee will now travel to Tezpur and Mangaldoi Treasuries in the third phase.
The Committee was constituted by Assam government consisting of experts from and outside the Forest department.
The Committee decided to compile the entire database for a complete transparent evaluation for the people of the state and the country to know the actual status of rhino horns stocked in various treasuries of Assam.
