ASEAN-India Innovation Platform

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 13th ASEAN-India Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Addressing the summit, PM Modi said that India is intending to set up an ASEAN-India Innovation Platform to facilitate commercialization of low cost technologies, technology transfer and collaborative R&D projects.

The Prime Minister said that India hopes that all parties to the disputes in the South China Sea will abide by the guidelines on the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, and redouble efforts for early adoption of a Code of Conduct on the basis of consensus.

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence in the India ASEAN trade and investment to further expand along with growth in their economies.

He added that ASEAN remains the largest investment partner – both for inward and outward flows.

During the summit, the main focus of India is on connectivity. Speaking further, the Prime Minister said that connectivity is the pathway to shared prosperity.

And that India is committed for a Line of Credit of US$ 1.0 billion to promote projects that support physical and digital connectivity between India and ASEAN.

Emphasising on India’s ambitious clean energy plans including the forthcoming launch of international solar alliance, PM Modi said renewable energy as a source can play an important role to deal with the concern of climate change.

For further strengthening the relations of India and ASEAN countries, Prime Minister Modi has called for collective efforts to revive the cultural pillar of relations.

He added that India’s proposing to open an ASEAN Studies Centre in our Northeastern Hill University in Shillong, which is our gateway to the East.
