Delhi Metro Bags ISO Rating

The Delhi Metro has become the first metro service in the country to be certified with the prestigious International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) rating for efficient energy management.

Under this, as many as 15 stations of the Delhi Metro and one of its depots have been selected for this rating, enabling Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to save 13,730 MVAH (Mega Volt Ampere Hour).

In 2013 and 2014, as much as 5,628 MVAH was saved, which has translated to monitory savings of Rs.961 lakh and Rs.394 lakh respectively.

The stations and depot, which have been certified are Yamuna Bank, Anand Vihar, Sarita Vihar, Ashok Park Main, GTB Nagar, Vishwavidyalaya, Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Janpath, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shahdara, Azadpur, HUDA City Centre and the Khyber Pass depot.

The ISO 50001: 2011 Energy Management System (EnMS) is a very recent ISO standard on energy management. It specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system, whose purpose is to enable an organisation to follow a systematic approach on achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including energy-efficiency, energy use and consumption.

DMRC has an energy policy in place, which lays down stringent energy-efficient guidelines for the organisation.

The Delhi Metro is now in the process of getting all the under-construction stations on Phase 3 to be certified as per ISO 50001:2011 standards.
