Digital India Award formerly known as WebRatna Awards is an initiative to acknowledge the exemplary initiatives in e-Governance.
The Government of India has been bracing for innovation and transformation in delivery of information/services with adoption of best ICT practices. The National Portal of India provides an ideal front-end for these initiatives as it is a single window access to information and services being provided by the various Indian Government entities.
In order to promote more innovative e-governance initiatives, the Digital India Awards have been instituted under the ambit of the National Portal of India. The awards also aim to spread awareness about such initiatives.
The ceremony was held on 19th December, 2016 in New Delhi. Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Law and Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad felicitated the winners. 28 awards were given under eight categories.
