First Cashless Region of India

The Union Territory of Daman and Diu has become the first cashless region of India.

A lot of efforts were made in this regard since last 10 days. A meeting was organized with public representatives, Govt. Employees, teachers, social Organizations, different Associations.

Administrator of Daman and Diu Prafulbhai Patel organized meetings and did field works on regular basis.

All the organizations were given training by the Department of Information and Technology, Daman.

In order to spread information for cashless transaction system, 190 teams of trained volunteers visited over 25,000 households spread across the UT to educate their members about the benefits of cashless transactions.

The college and school going youths also visited from door to door to spread awareness regarding e-payment, e-wallet, credit card, mobile banking, POS.

Different applications connected with cashless transactions in the mobile were downloaded and awareness is raised by transferring 5 to 10 Rupees by these teams. In addition to this, efforts were made to make all the govt. services fully cashless for payment of electricity and other bills.

Rickshaw, hotel, bar, lorry, cabin, petrol pumps and other associations submitted their reports regularly on cashless transaction and mentioning how much cashless transactions they have made till now.

Administration also took one more step to promote cashless transactions among people, under which a welfare account was started, wherein 2 to 5 rupees transactions can be made through online cashless system. A campaign in this regard run for three days.

The purpose of crediting amount in the welfare account was an effort to inspire people for making cashless transactions.

The volunteers in the teams are explained everything about cashless transaction and after that taking the signature from the concerned people after their confirmation of having understood the system of cashless transaction completely.

The administration of Daman and Diu has introduced free Wi-Fi services in the UT recently and 3,500 GB data was used by over 32,000 tourists and local people during the last 45 days. This initiative helped in promoting the Centre’s initiative of Digital India and e-transactions.
