 NATIONAL MISSION ON EDUCATION THROUGH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

  • This Mission has been envisaged as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to leverage the potential of ICT, in teaching and learning process for the benefit of all the learnings in Higher Education Institutions in anytime anywhere mode.
  • This was expected to be a major intervention in enhancing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in Higher Education by 5% during the XI Five Year Plan period.
  • It seeks to bridge the digital divide, i.e. the gap in the skills to use computing devices for the purpose of teaching and learning among urban and rural teachers/learners in Higher Education domain.
  • It plans to focus on appropriate pedagogy for e-learning, providing facility of performing experiments through virtual laboratories, on-line testing and certification, on-line availability of teachers to guide and mentor learners, utilization of available Education Satellite (EduSAT) and Direct to Home (DTH) platforms, training and empowerment of teachers to effectively use the new method of teaching learning, etc.

 COPYRIGHT AND BOOK PROMOTION COPYRIGHT

  • The Copyright Office was established in 1958 under Section 9(1) of the Copyright Act, 1957.
  • It functions under the administrative control of the Department of Higher Education.
  • It is headed by the Registrar of Copyrights, who has quasi-judicial powers in handling cases relating to copyright.
  • The main function of the Copyright Office is to undertake registration of copyright.
  • As provided under Section 13 of the Copyright Act, 1957, copyright subsists in the following classes or works: (a) Original literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works; (b) Cinematographic films; and (C) Sound Recording.
  • Acquisition of copyright is automatic and it does not require any formality. Copyright comes into existence as soon as a work is created and no formality is required to be completed for acquiring copyright.
  • However, as per Section 48 of the Act, certificate of registration of copyright and the entries made therein serve as prima facie evidence in a court of law with reference to dispute relating to ownership of copyright.

 NATIONAL BOOK TRUST, INDIA (NBT)

  • NBT is an apex body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, was established in 1957.
  • The Trust is mandated to produce and encourage the publication of good books and to make them available at moderate prices to the public.
  • The Trust is also mandated to arrange book fairs/exhibitions and take all necessary steps to make the people book minded in the country.
  • The Trust is headed by the Chairman who is assisted by the Director appointed by the Government of India.
  • The Trust is governed by the Board of Trustees headed by the Chairman, consisting of 18 members from publishing industry and Government representatives nominated by the Government of India, MHRD for tenure of three years.
