Empowered Committee on 7th Pay Commission

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for setting up an Empowered Committee of Secretaries under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary, in order to process the recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) in an overall perspective.

The Empowered Committee of Secretaries will function as a Screening Committee to process the recommendations with regard to all relevant factors of the 7th CPC in an expeditious detailed and holistic fashion.

Background:

In a resolution dated 28th February, 2014, Government of India has appointed the Seventh Central Pay Commission comprising Justice Shri Ashok Kumar Mathur as Chairman, Vivek Rae as full time Member, Dr. Ratin Roy as part time Member and Smt. Meena Agarwal as Secretary.

The Commission is headquartered in Delhi and has been given 18 months from date of its constitution to make its recommendations.

On November 19, 2015, 7th Pay Commission recommended 23.55% hike in pay and allowances which will be implemented from January 1, 2016.
