West Indian Chris Gayle has become the first batsman in the world to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket.
He achieved this feat during ongoing innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore in game 20 of IPL 2017 versus Gujarat Lions. He scored 77 off 38 to end with 10,074 runs.
Before this match started, Gayle, 37, was already the leading run-getter in T20s and the owner of a host of records in the format: the most centuries (18) and fifties (60), highest individual score (175* for RCB in the IPL), joint fastest fifty (off 12 balls for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League), most sixes (736) and fours (764).
