Pune: 04 August 2024

In response to incessant rainfall in Pune and the release of excess water from the Khadakwasla Dam, the Indian Army has swiftly mobilised a flood relief column to assist the affected residents of Ekta Nagar. The District Magistrate’s Office requisitioned the Indian Army Column at 09:15 AM today, prompting immediate action.

An Army relief column, comprising approximately 100 personnel, has been deployed in the flood affected area. The team includes Infantry Troops from the Maratha Light Infantry, an Engineer Task Force from the Bombay Engineers Group and a Medical team from the Military Hospital Khadki. The column is equipped with rescue boats, Quadcopters, and other essential rescue equipment.

Upon arrival, the relief column commander assessed the situation and conducted an initial reconnaissance with the civil administration. The release of excess water from Khadakwasla Dam has led to water levels rising significantly in several areas, including Ekta Nagar.

In coordination with the civil administration, the Indian Army has commenced the evacuation of all buildings and apartments in the inundated areas, relocating residents to safer locations. Reconnaissance is being carried out using Quadcopters and Inflatable Rubberised Boats to effectively navigate and assess the affected zones.

As part of the ongoing efforts, few stranded people were rescued successfully from Dwarka Apartment. Emergency exits have also been created in residential buildings where water logging is severe to ensure the safety of residents. Additional Columns are on stand by to respond
