Ken-Betwa River Linking Project Approved

Union Environment and Tribal Affairs Ministries has given go ahead to Ken-Betwa river linking project.

Union Water Resources Ministry is working with NITI Aayog to finalise funding pattern for the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project. T

The nearly 9,400 crore rupee project will irrigate 6.35 lakh hectares and mitigate drinking water woes of Bundelkhand region.

The Ken river flows in Uttar Pradesh while Betwa flows in Madhya Pradesh.

The project will provide irrigation facilities to land in Panna, Chhattarpur, Tikamgarh districts in Madhya Pradesh, and Banda, Mahoba and Jhansi districts in Uttar Pradesh.

During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, the ‘Indian Rivers Inter-link’ was proposed with an aim to link Indian rivers by a network of reservoirs and canals to reduce persistent floods and water shortages.
