The Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today said that the sporting events act as a great national unifier with the athletes from across the states coming together and building lifelong relationships and a strong sense of camaraderie among them.
Addressing the Closing Ceremony of 36th National Games at Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Indoor Stadium in Surat today, the Vice President congratulated the state government for the successful organisation of the mega sporting event which saw many new records being set in different streams over the last few weeks. “Athletes will carry fond memories and a new enthused spirit of nationalism from here,” he said.
Referring to the remarkable growth of sporting infrastructure in the country over the last few years, Shri Dhankhar expressed confidence that “the day is not far when Bharat will host the Olympics.” Praising the vision of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, he said that all efforts are being made to provide right opportunities and proper grooming to budding sporting talent in the country. The new sporting culture driven by merit and fair selection is a game changer, he added.
In his address, Shri Dhankhar mentioned the heart-warming incident when the Prime Minister personally spoke to every member of Indian Woman’s Hockey Team after they narrowly missed a medal at Tokyo Olympics, and emphasised that “more than victory or defeat, it is the sportsmanship that matters.”
Mentioning that this was his first visit to Gujarat after taking over as the Vice President of India, Shri Dhankhar said that he was overwhelmed by the love and affection showered by the people of the state. Praising Gujarat’s contribution to national development, he said that “historic contributions have been made in pre-independent and post independent era by sons of Gujarat.”
The Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar & Dr Sudesh Dhankhar who arrived in Surat on a three-day tour were welcomed by Shri Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat along with the Ministers from the Government of Gujarat and others at the Surat airport. In the next two days they will visit the Statue of Unity and Sabarmati Ashram and also attend a number of events organised by the state government and community organisations.
More than 14, 500 sportspersons, coaches and officials from all States and Union Territories participated in this year’s National Games which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on September 29th, 2022.
Shri Om Birla, Speaker, Lok Sabha, Shri Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Ministers and Parliamentarians from the state of Gujarat, participating sportspersons, officials and others attended the Closing Ceremony of the games.

ऊर्जा और उत्साह से औत परोत गुजरात राज्य में आमंत्रित करने के लिए मैं आप सभी का हृदय से आभार व्यक्त करता हूं।
गुजरात की धरती पर पहला कदम रखते ही ऊर्जा और उत्साह का संचार महसूस किया जा सकता है।
मैं गुजरात के लोगों की ऊर्जा की सराहना करता हूं।
उप-राष्ट्रपति का पदग्रहण करने के पश्चात यह मेरी गुजरात की प्रथम यात्रा है।
इस दृश्य को देखकर मैं अभिभूत हूं।
इस मिट्टी को नमन करता हूं।
यहां के सपूतों ने हर काल खण्ड में देश की सेवा में कीर्तिमान हासिल किये है और बखूबी कर रहें हैं।
Historic contributions have been made in pre independent era, post independent era and presently by sons of Gujarat. Nation shall be ever beholden to them.

We have seen combination of physical stamina and mental strength. Both are requirements of healthy sportsmanship.
36 राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों और सर्विसेज से 14,500 से अधिक खिलाड़ियों, कोचों और अधिकारियों का अदभूत संगम से मैं अभिभूत हूँ।
सुखद विषय है की भागीदारी के साथ, यह खेल आयोजन बेहद सफल रहा और एक नया मानदंड भी स्थापित किया।
इस अवधि के दौरान कई रिकॉर्ड टूटे, भविष्य के कई चैंपियन खोजे गए और खेल और राष्ट्रीय भावना मजबूत हुई।
इस शानदार उपलब्धि के लिए राज्य सरकार, भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ, खिलाड़ियों, कोचों, सहयोगी स्टाफ और अन्य सभी लोगों को मेरी ओर से हार्दिक बधाई।
हमारे एथलीट राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों, एशियाई खेलों और ओलंपिक जैसे अंतरराष्ट्रीय आयोजनों में असाधारण प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं।
गुजरात सरकार के प्रयास से, एथलीटों और विशेष रूप से उभरते खिलाड़ियों को अपने देश में एक समान मंच मिला।

मेरा मानना है कि राष्ट्रीय खेल जैसे मंच केवल एक प्रतियोगिता नहीं हैं, ये ऐसे प्लेटफॉर्म हैं जहां युवा भारत के सपनों को साकार किया जाता है।
देश के हर कोने से खिलाड़ियों की उपस्थिति और भागीदारी तथा देश भर से आये खिलाड़ियों का एक जगह होना, इससे सांस्कृतिक आदान-प्रदान होता है और खिलाड़ियों में आपसी लगाव और संबंध बढ़ते हैं।
राष्ट्रीय एकता को मजबूत करते हुए यह कार्यक्रम आजादी के अमृत महोत्सव की भावना को दर्शाता है।
इस आयोजन की सफलता और massive world class infrastructure को देखकर मैं आशावान हूँ की वो समय दूर नहीं जब देश Olympics को host करेगा।
I have no doubt that the day is not far when Bharat will host Olympics.
World class infrastructure in Gujarat is enormously benefiting the Nation. This is indicative of changing sports echo system in the country.
खेलों के प्रति हमारे दृष्टिकोण में बदलाव देखकर मुझे प्रसन्नता हो रही है। प्रधान मंत्री जी ने अनेक सार्थक कदम उठाकर देश में ऐक नई सोच और ऊर्जा का संचार किया है।

हाल के वर्षों में देशभर में खेलों को एक संस्कृति के रूप में बढ़ावा देने के लिए स्वस्थ इकोसिस्टम विकसित किया गया है।
मेरे समक्ष बदलते हुए भारत की तस्वीर है यहां का यह स्टेडियम। हर्ष का विषय है कि देश में स्पोर्ट्स इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर के विकास पर विशेष बल दिया जा रहा है।
गर्व का विषय है कि विगत वर्ष ही 1.32 लाख दर्शकों की क्षमता वाले विश्व के सबसे बड़े क्रिकेट स्टेडियम का उद्घाटन गुजरात में किया गया है।
प्रधानमंत्री जी ने खेलों के लिए समर्पित भाव से प्रयास किये हैं। हर योग्य खिलाड़ी को उसकी प्रतिभा के चमकाने हर संभव साधन व अवसर प्रदान किये जा रहे हैं।
हाल के समय में खेलों और खेल से जुड़ी संस्थाओं में पारदर्शिता स्थापित हुई है और नतीजे हमारे सामने हैं।
निरंतर भारत के युवा अंतर्राष्ट्रीय खेल प्रतियोगिताओं में बेहतर प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं। भारत की इस बढ़ती क्षमता को देखते हिए मुझे पूर्ण विश्वास है कि अब वो दिन अब दूर नहीं है जब ओलंपिक खेलों के भारत में आयोजन को लेकर हमारी जोरदार दावेदारी होगी।
टोक्यो ओलंपिक में जब भारतीय महिला हॉकी टीम मेडल जीतने से बाल-बाल चूक गयी तो, प्रधानमंत्री जी ने उनसे बात करके हौसला बढ़ाया।

खेल में हार जीत का अपना महत्व है पर यह अंतिम लक्ष्य नहीं है। खेल से एक भावना जाग्रत होती है।
More than victory or defeat it is the sportsmanship that matters.
हाल के वर्षों में देशभर में खेल से संबंधित बुनियादी ढांचे को उन्नत करने के लिए असाधारण प्रयास हुए हैं। गुजरात अनुकरणीय उदाहरण है।
यह गर्व का विषय है कि खिलाड़ियों ने आयोजन के दौरान उच्चतम स्तर की खेल भावना का प्रदर्शन किया। खेल जीतना या हारना नहीं होता- इसका मतलब हिस्सा लेने से है।
खेल अनुशासित जीवन शैली को भी बढ़ावा देता है। यह हमारे गुरुओं के प्रति सम्मान और अपने साथियों व प्रतिस्पर्धियों के प्रति सहानुभूति की भावना पैदा करता है।
मुझे यकीन है कि कई खिलाड़ी अब गरबा के बेसिक स्टेप्स जान चुके होंगे और वे इन प्यारी यादों को लेकर अपने गृह राज्यों को लौटेंगे।
राष्ट्रीय खेल वास्तव में खेल के जरिए हम सभी को एकजुट करते हैं। ये सभी एथलीटों के लिए एक जीवन भर के संबंध भी विकसित करते हैं और उनमें सौहार्द्र की भावना मजबूत होती है।
