The Ministry of Earth Sciences has initiated six new projects as part of the implementation of the recommendations of the group of secretaries to the Prime Minister.
The six projects have been selected by the NITI Aayog.
The 48 projects selected by the NITI Aayog, six projects alone belong to the MoES.
These include developing state-of-the-art multi-hazard early warning systems for natural disasters including earthquakes, coastal hazards, tsunamis, high ocean waves, urban and flash floods.
Other projects include weather and climate services for the northeast region, marine observations along Indian Coasts and a Coastal Mission, support the ‘Initiative of Blue Economy’ by improving ocean services and innovating and developing cutting edge ocean technology for the generation of clean energy from the oceans.
Shortlisted six new projects also include providing agromet services to maximum number of farmers and taking weather forecasting to block level before March 2019.
The projects also include providing customised weather services for 300 tourist and pilgrimage locations.
Other projects include generating energy from waves in Kavarati in Lakshadweep and bettering the weather forecast.
