Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar has been recommended as the new Chief Justice of India by the present Chief Justice of India T S Thakur.
Justice Khehar, who is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, will be T S Thakur’s successor.
Justice Khehar, 64, will be the first Chief Justice from the Sikh community and will succeed T S Thakur who will be demitting office on January 3, 2017.
Justice Khehar will be sworn in on January 4 and will have a tenure of over seven months till August 27, 2017.
